Birthday campaigns are crowdfunding campaigns launched by people who want to raise money for a cause that they care about to celebrate their birthday. You can browse the current birthday campaigns here.
- Which organisation can I choose to crowdfund for?
You can crowdfund for any voluntary organisation/charity that is registered and compliant with the Malta Council for the Voluntary Sector. It’s ideal to select an organisation or cause that resonates with your values and objectives, ensuring that the funds raised will make a meaningful impact.
- How do organisations receive donations?
The funds raised will be transferred to the organisation’s designated bank account.
- Will the organisation know that I am crowdfunding for them?
Yes. When setting up a crowdfunding campaign, you typically provide information about the organisation, its mission, and the purpose for which you are raising funds. The organisation will be informed that you want to crowdfund in their name, and they will need to accept.
- What do I need to provide to set up a crowdfunding campaign?
You will need to provide
- a copy of your ID card,
- the name of the voluntary organisation that you want to crowdfund for,
- your fundraising goal.
You will need to set up an account on Zaar to upload your campaign content. You can explain why you are raising funds for this organisation and the impact that people’s contributions will make.
- How long does it take to set up a campaign?
You will need to inform Zaar about your intention to set up a campaign at least 1 week before you want the campaign to be launched. If not enough advance notice is given, Zaar is not responsible for delayed campaign launches.
- I’m not tech-savvy at all. How can Zaar help?
While you will need to register online and upload the information so that it appears under your name, Zaar can provide you with the necessary text and images for the campaign, as well as an image that can be used across your social media pages to inform people about your birthday crowdfunding campaign.
- How long will my campaign last?
Birthday crowdfunding campaigns last for 1 month from the launch date of the campaign.
- Do I get to keep any of the funds raised?
No, the funds will be sent directly to the voluntary organisation.
- How do fees work?
The fees incurred are the Zaar administrative fee of 5% (+ VAT), and the payment gateway charges. Fees are capped at 10%. These are withheld from the money raised. More information about fees can be found in the main FAQs page.
- How do people donate to the campaign?
People who wish to donate to your crowdfunding campaign will need to sign up to Zaar, choose the amount that they wish to donate, and enter their credit card details to process the transaction. An email is sent to all backers to verify their transaction.
- Who can donate to my crowdfunding campaign?
Your campaign can attract contributions from friends, family, colleagues, acquaintances, and even strangers who resonate with your story and wants to support you and the organisation that you chose. All major cards are accepted, so there are no geographical boundaries or limits for donations.
- Do I have to give anything to the people who donate?
No, you are not obliged to give anything to the backers (except, perhaps a thank you!) Backers cannot demand to receive anything, neither from the campaign owner nor from the voluntary organisation.
- How will I know who has donated to my campaign?
A list of backers is available on each crowdfunding campaign page. Campaign owners can access this list through their dashboard when they are logged into Zaar.
