Project Description

History

For many residents of Mellieħa, basketball is an important part of our community. In the early 2000s Mellieħa Basketball was a respected and well-supported team that brought together players, families, volunteers, and supporters from across the locality.

Over the years, the original club gradually saw dissolution and short-lived attempts at reintroducing it under new management, leaving a gap in local sport and youth opportunities. At Selmun, you find contributors that were there from the beginning along with new ones that love the game. This time, we’re working on bringing it back from the ground up by starting with the youth U8, U12, U16 and U19.

This campaign aims to raise €7,500 to relaunch Mellieħa Basketball through Selmun Sports Club as a community-focused club that welcomes children, teenagers, and adults who want to play, learn, compete, and represent our Mellieħa with pride.

The Scope

Sport provides much more than competition. It teaches discipline, teamwork, confidence, respect, leadership, and healthy habits that our youth and new generations need to establish a great community. As sports club we provide safe space and a positive environment where young people can develop both on and off the court.

By rebuilding Mellieħa Basketball, we aim to re-establish and revive basketball as an active sport in Mellieħa and the northern region at a Senior (Adult) level. This means we’ll represent Mellieħa in Malta Basketball Association [MBA] leagues once again.

Help us start off with a bang as we hit the ground running! We want to make sure we’re seen and heard, and that people know we’re out there, it’s necessary for our growth. Having these covered, means we can head into the basketball season focusing on basketball itself !
